Perspective Plan

Currently more than 50% of the Indian population is using LPG for their domestic cooking purposes of which consumption is predominantly concentrated in Urban areas. Rural population still continue to use firewood, biomass and crop residue as their basic fuel for cooking. It is envisaged that by 2015 the population coverage will be increased to 75% across the country. This will be achieved by
  • Every block getting at least one LPG distributorship
  • Every district getting covered to 50%.
  • Every State achieving a minimum coverage of 60%.
It is planned to release 5.5 crore new LPG connections during next five years through Rajiv Gandhi Gramin LPG Vitaran (RGGLVs) and other distributorships. IOC have already advertised locations for RGGLVs and have commenced the selection process.
